About Me
Hi! My name is Jesse Alex Fulton and I am a Los Angeles based playwright and freelance director. Like most queer, Jewish men in their early 20s, I am obsessed with theatre, my mother, and panicking over current events. I recently graduated from Emerson College where I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Theater with a double minor in Political Science and Creative Writing. Despite my generally happy and positive disposition, I tend to gravitate towards work with darker elements and twisted endings.
Artistic Statement
My creative work typically holds the same energy as a monkey in a bow tie pissing on a courtroom floor. I strive to write and direct stories that are deeply unserious and silly in their tone and attitude, yet boldly political and defiant in their message and purpose. Theater and storytelling is my way of questioning the status quo and challenging our societal view of “normal”. My work is a little kid holding up a middle finger at the world with a huge smile on his face. I want my work to speak for itself but only in gibberish. I want to create stories that prompt head tilts even noisier than applause. There is absurdity everywhere we look and I aim to point it out in ways that are funny, tragic, ugly, yet beautiful all at the same time. To me storytelling is not just an outlet for expression but a living example of my ever-developing world view. Every piece I work on is a personal debate against myself and my own beliefs.
